For my first blog post I wanted to talk about this particular surprise proposal on December 19th of the year 2025 and one of the most craziest winds I have ever encountered.
Sam reached out to me a while back to plan everything to perfection for the day he would get on one knee and propose to his life long love. But mother nature had other plans.
Leading up to the day of, I kept an eye on the weather tracker and informed him of the possibility of having to either cancel or reschedule. However, that was not possible. This man was determined and had everything planned out to the T. High MPH winds, rain and dark clouds could not ruin it. I probably suggested to cancel it more than I'd like to admit. I was worried about our safety. We changed locations and ended up going to the Harbor Hotel and planned to have it take place under the archway. But the winds were stronger and we were right next to the water. Sam told me this was not possible because people came from out of town, the venue and everything was set in place. I could not let them down. Regardless of how nervous I was, if this man was that determined then so was I.
I get there roughly about 20 minutes before and what happened was absolutely astounding. 20 minutes, turn to 10 to 5...I'm tracking their location and right before they walk up to the archway - the sun breaks out, the winds stop and the rain is no more!
I literally could not believe what I was seeing before my eyes. All I could say was "Thank you God!!!!". Im hiding in the corner, he walks up with her and I'm slowly creeping up behind them and click "record" and immediately begin to go bonkers snapping away.
He gets down on one knee and it's all coming together so beautifully. The sun, the bright sky and the warm soft air. She says "YES!" and I'm cheering and doing the absolute most because hello? Sam you did it! You faced all of what could have possibly been thrown at you and you continued on without a crack. That's love, determination and drive. We had a solid 30-40 minutes of no rain, soft winds and sun. It was great. We frolic around the Harbor front and take it all in. All of the emotions, all of the relief, all of the love, all of the happiness and most importantly, acknowledging their journey to forever.
While it begins to rain, the fun continues on and we finish off at the Rowes Wharf Sea Grille where a bottle of celebratory champagne awaits for them. Beautiful restaurant and just being there, watching them and snapping away I was filled with much gratitude. Sam, you taught me something that day. You taught me not to be scared and that when you are determined to do something, big or small, rain or shine, you get out there and you get it done. So thank you for that. Thank you for having me, for being so still and for your determination that served me as a great reminder that photography really is more than just following someone with a camera. We're telling stories, the setting, the emotions, the obstacles all take place and is what makes the storyline. I often look back at your gallery with hope and determination to not pull back regardless of my own fears. Because what's on the other side is much more beautiful.
Heres to unwavering love, a life-long journey of Yes's and your future together.
